Kate (she/her) is a seasoned leader in visual storytelling, with decades of experience shaping culture and driving creativity in the photography industry. She has a proven ability to nurture innovative ideas, build award-winning teams—including those behind Pulitzer Prize-winning work—and establish efficient systems that deliver results.
She is the former Director of Photography at The Los Angeles Times and Image Magazine. She has spent the bulk of her career implementing and overseeing innovative coverage of major events including the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, COVID-19 pandemic, the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis, the war in Ukraine and the homeless crisis in Los Angeles, to name a few. She was responsible for setting a new visual tone to compete in the modern media landscape.
She is also a sought-after collaborator and speaker for prominent organizations, working with both emerging and established photographers to elevate their craft.
Always behind the scenes, Kate plays a pivotal role in guiding the creative process from concept to execution with a hands-on approach. She shapes and steers the visual direction, ensuring it is both compelling and intentional. Her mission is to inspire and empower teams to bring this vision to life with passion and precision, whether she's developing high-level strategy or perfecting the smallest details. Every project is driven by her unwavering goal: to be purposeful.
Currently, Kate has created and launched DALA Photo Festival whose mission is to explore, inspire and amplify the love of photography, its practitioners and adjacent creative communities.
She is also an entrepreneur, inventor, and patent holder.
